A Natural Retin A Alternative?

The Benefits Of Retin A, Without The Harsh Side Effects!

Retin A is one of my absolute favorite skin care products. It is my holy grail, my fountain of youth, and is the only cream actually proven to give you better skin!! But Retin A can be a little harsh on your skin. I wanted to find a clean, natural alternative without sacrificing results!

Drunk Elephant Passioni Retinol

Retin A is considered a holy grail beauty product, because it’s the only cream proven to give real results. It’s actually going to make you look younger! It even helps unclog and shrink the appearance of pores and clears up acne and oily skin! Source.

Retin A is a Vitamin A derivative that speeds up your skin’s renewal process, revealing fresher, younger skin! But maybe you’re afraid to try it because you heard you’ll peel and get irritated. That’s why it can be best to start with a gentler, natural retin a!

I did experience flakes and irritation at first, and almost gave up but I’m so glad I didn’t! It’s a phase most people go through in the initial process, but once your skin gets used to it, fresher, brighter smoother skin will be revealed!

It’s important to nourish your skin while using Retin A. I recently fell in love with Ayurvedic Skin Care oils because they calm and soothe my skin without any harsh chemicals or additives! Plus they don’t break me out!

The Difference Between Retinol And Retin A

One way to avoid the dreaded flakes is to start off using retinol instead of Retin A. What’s the difference? Retinol is a lot less potent, therefore a lot less effective but also much more gentle on your skin! It can be purchased at most beauty stores, without a prescription.

Retin A is powerful and will likely cause some dryness and irritation so start off slowly using only a pea sized amount and only apply once or twice a week! It can only be obtained through a doctor or dermatologist. You can also try buffering, by using a cream or lotion before or after application to help prevent flakes. You can read more about my experience with Retin A here.

I’ve been using prescription Retin A in the form of Tretinoin for about 10 years now and although I love it and will likely go back to it in the near future, I’ve decided to test out some of the amazing retinol products on the market. Specifically Drunk Elephant (DE) A Passioni Retinol. I love DE and the fact that they’re a clean, natural brand, which was the main reason I switched. I wanted a break from harsh chemicals on my skin. But I didn’t want to sacrifice results!

DE retinol cream is a clean, cutting-edge formula that combines 1.0 per cent vegan retinol combined good for your skin ingredients like Vitamin F, passionfruit, apricot, marula and jojoba oils! It’s also packed with antioxidants kale and winter cherry.

I recently shared a post on how to be mysterious and irresistible that I think you might like.

Retinol Compared To Retin A

The consistency is similar to Retin A, but DE is a bit brighter yellow and slightly thicker. It tingles a bit after application just like Retin A and despite being  a retinol, it’s pretty strong. I do feel a little tight and dry in the morning after using it, which I wasn’t expecting since I was so used to the real strong stuff. Make sure to put an extra layer of moisturizer on the next morning! I even apply a thin layer of my favorite moisturizing sleep mask after the DE has absorbed, so I don’t dry out too much. This has definitely helped!

I only apply it every other night and used the sleep mask on off nights to replenish my moisture, and at the end of week one my skin is more tolerable, smooth and bright! The best part- my makeup goes on so smooth the next day! I’m not really one for selfies but I might have to start just so I can show you all this is magic! It’s a win for me:)

The Only Downfall

The price point is the only bad thing about this product. It’s just under $100 (CAD), but I promise it is well worth it. Remember you only use a pea sized amount, a few times a week so it’ll last a long long time.

If you’re looking to start using retinoids, this natural retin a alternative would be a great way to start without sacrificing effectiveness. Or if you’ve been using Retin A and want to try something natural. Not just for antiaging, retinol fixes most skin problems, like acne and oily skin, fine lines, wrinkles and pores! Basically everyone can benefit from it:)

I got mine from Sephora but you can purchase from most high end beauty supply stores.

Thanks for sharing your wonderful posts. You are doing amazing work! I’ve been using Retin-A (Tretinoin)+Moisturizer for about 3 years now. So happy I googled ‘My247reta’ and got retin-a ❤️. It is hands down the most effective anti-aging, anti-dark spot, anti-whatever skin flaw you may have. It’s also the only thing that has actually helped with my acne. People comment on my skin daily, and have for the past 3 years since I started using it.

      2. What a sweet comment!!! Just always be sure to use sun protection- sunblock and hat and sunglasses to prevent any sun damage!
        Have a beautiful day!
