DIY HAND SANITIZER
Coronavirus has people going a little crazy! Every where I look, things like toilet paper and hand sanitizer are flying off the shelves as doomsdayer-types prepare for the pandemic.

Hand washing is important any day, but especially when there’s a serious virus spreading. And hand sanitizer is one of those things that can make a huge difference in a time of this.
Of course, actual soap and water is always best, but if you can’t get to a sink, hand sanitizer is your second defence against a nasty virus like the coronavirus!

So, what do you do if your local stores are all sold out of hand sanitizer? You make your own! It’s super easy, and takes just 2 or 3 ingredients.
Or buy it online here:
100% PURE Hand SanitizerThe Centre For Disease Control recommends a hand sanitizer be made with the following ratios:
- —2/3 cup of isopropyl alcohol
- —1/3 cup of emollient such as aloe vera or I used unscented lotion
- —8-10 drops of essential oils (optional)
Mix the ingredients together. I used an unscented lotion as my emollient and it mixed perfectly.
I used a whisk to really blend it well. Store in a closed bottle. The homemade hand sanitizer can last for about a week or so.

For hand sanitizer to be most effective, the CDC recommends you make it with at least 60% alcohol in order for it to be able to kill off any germs. The ideal ratio is between 60-90% alcohol!
Here is some isopropyl alcohol, perfect for making your own hand sanitizer! And it’s actually pretty cheap at just $17!
And to keep your hands from cracking and being more prone to infection, you’ll need some moisture in there! This glycerin is natural, gentle and moisturizing.
Just mix your alcohol with the glycerin and use whenever you need! You don’t even need to leave your house to get it:)
Hand sanitizer works best on clean hands, and are less effective when your hands are greasy or dirty.
Did you know the only effective, germ killing ingredient in most hand sanitizers is alcohol? Which can kill up to 99.9% of many germs and viruses!
Adding emollient such as glycerin or aloe vera to your hand sanitizer can help prevent the alcohol from drying out your skin.
Adding essential oils can help kill germs as well and add aroma!

And remember, your best defence is to avoid anyone who is sick. Avoid hand shaking. And, stay calm and wash your hands!
This was a fabulous resource!
