What is Aromatherapy?

There are no words to describe the wonderful feeling when you walkinto the room that is infused with a sense of peace and harmony. 

The wonderful aroma of healing herbs, plants and incense is the mind and soul of aromatherapy. Many a time, aromatherapy is used to address a physical or mental problem. But the healing properties are in the belief that the aroma and mood brought about by aromatherapy brings the illness out of the body or situation.

The Uses of Aromatherapy

The actual uses of aromatherapy as an herbal treatment is well over a thousand years. For example, Marinus oil is an essential oil that has been used in aromatherapy for years to treat depression, infections, to heal cuts and burns, reducenausea and is used to fight psychosis. 

However, there is some controversy about the use of essential oils such as Marinus Oil. In alternative therapy, it is often used to relieve the symptoms of infections such as itching, stings and bites. Although, it can also be used to relieve anxiety by making you feel calmer and ultimately is helpful in treating depression. However, it is not scientifically known whether these essential oils and its aroma is actually capable of healing infection.

What are Essential Oils?

Studies have found that essential oils have properties that reinforce each other, creating a complex network of molecules, or a fragrance, that can communicate with the body and affect its health. 

The Uses of Essential Oils

What they found is that the molecules in a particular essential oil can activate receptors in the body that meditate and cleanse the mind, helping to relax and strengthen the immune system. Additionally, because essential oils are nature’s Arthritis Remedy, they are also capable of healing Arthritis conditions.

Furthermore, the use of vitamin and mineral supplementation, along with the application of a few drops of essential oil, has been used successfully to prevent and treat colds, dandruff, diarrhea, a sore throat, muscular weakness and stomach upsets or gastrointestinal disturbances. Although scientific studies are not complete, it is believed that essential oil treatment can be an effective treatment for asthma, cystic fibrosis, sore eyes, depression and other ailments.

The immune system, and the way it attacks pathogens, is thought to be influenced by the oxygen environment. Essential oils are believed to have antiviral, antifungal and antibacterial abilities; extracts of essential oils can circulate through the body and attack germs and viruses in the same way. 

It is believed that essential oils can regulate immune system activity, affect the central nervous system and reduce pain and inflammation. It is also believed that essential oil treatment can help defend the body from the effects of radiation and chemotherapy.

The Benefits of Aromatherapy

There are many benefits of aromatherapy. We use our sense of smell with one of our other senses to help us relax and let go of negative emotions. Many of us at times of emotional stress, or in those moments of no communication whatsoever can greatly benefit from aromatherapy.
