Discover Why Earthing Is a Hot New Health and Wellness Trend

What if the answer to better health and wellness issues was right under your feet, all along?! You know how good it feels to walk barefoot on the beach? That my friend, is earthing and although it sounds so simple it just might be the key to your health and wellness!
Earthing is becoming more and more popular in the health and wellness industry! Another name for earthing is grounding, because it refers to putting your body in direct contact with the earth. I know what you’re thinking- you are in contact with earth all the time right? Well, you’d be surprised to know that things like concrete and shoes can interfere with how your body absorbs the earth’s vibrational frequencies. The best way to get the benefits of grounding is to go barefoot or wear natural shoes on grass or any of the earth’s natural surfaces.
Why Should You Practice Earthing?

I watched a documentary on YouTube called The Earthing Movie and it explained how much it helped a family heal mentally and physically! Earthing helped them become healthier, happier and they even lost weight simply by coming in contact with the earth more! It’s a shame we often turn to diets and pills to feel better and lose weight, yet we could be turning to something we all have right under our feet!
After watching it, I started to practice earthing, intentionally making time for it every day. I laid on the grass and just listened to the birds and felt the grass in my palms. It was so relaxing. I felt like all the weight and tension I was holding on to was being released… until my little daughter decided to body slam my stomach… but hey, every little bit helps, right?
Now, I make an effort to get out and walk and touch the earth as much as possible, every day. I have definitely noticed a change in my energy levels and I sleep better at night too! Earthing has also improved my mental wellness and has helped me feel part of something greater… something bigger and more powerful than just our daily routine if that makes sense? It’s a spiritual thing;)
If ever you’re feeling anxiety, step outdoors, take off your shoes and connect with the earth. You’d be surprised by the relief you’ll feel!
Earthing can also reduce stress, improve circulation, improve digestion and so much more!

What is earthing?

Earthing means you connect to the earth by touching the ground, the best way is through soil or sand. Earthing is also supposed to help you reconnect with the planet. It is extremely beneficial to your mental health and emotional state.

The main idea of earthing and it’s effects are based on positive and negative charges. The earth has a negative charge, and the human body tends to have a positive charge. By touching the earth, you can get grounded and reach a neutral charge.
Earthing directly impacts your body’s vibrational energy. It may also effect your health.
Some people believe that a positive electrical charge can lead to health issues. By using earthing, you may be able to prevent or even correct some health issues.
What are the health benefits of earthing?
Experts are still debating the health advantages of earthing, and each person responds a bit differently, but people who do it have reported several benefits:
- Reduced inflammation in the body
- Decreased pain, stress, and jet lag
- Better sleep
- More energy
- Normalized blood pressure
- Faster healing
- Fewer headaches
- Less muscle tension
Does research support earthing?
Earthing is still a controversial practice, but some initial studies do support it.
A study from the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine found that earthing could reduce blood viscosity, which is a factor in cardiovascular disease. This means earthing may lower the risk of heart disease.
Other preliminary studies have shown some improvements in sleep and inflammation.
I have noticed my back and neck pain has decreased dramatically since I’ve started earthing.
The practice needs more research because most of the studies have been small and short-term. However, the current findings are already positive and encouraging.

How can you practice earthing?

It’s easy to do earthing if you live near a forest, park, beach, or even if you have a backyard. But how can you do it if you live in a big city without easy access to nature?
If you’re lucky enough to live near the beach, earthing is as simple as going barefoot in the sand as often as possible. Start with whatever works for you and your schedule. I usually try to get in 30 minutes a day, but some days I only manage 15 minutes.
In order for it to be most effective, you can’t wear shoes or socks because your skin needs to be in contact with the sand for best results. However, if you wear natural shoes or socks, you may still feel some effects.
If you live near a park or natural preserve, try to occasionally walk barefoot on the soil.
Another option is to play in the grass in your backyard at home.
You can also buy earthing mats or sheets to use indoors. These are usually sold as kits and don’t require dirt or soil. They look like doormats, but they’re electrically conductive.
How do you stay safe?
Since earthing requires you to go barefoot, there are some safety tips that are important to follow:
Ensure the area you’re earthing in is safe and clear from debris. Watch out for rocks, broken glass, nails or other items that can cause injuries.
Wash your feet after you get home, so you don’t track sand or dirt through the house, and to clean any small cuts or scratches you may have incurred.
Be especially careful with children who want to do earthing because they can step on harmful things without noticing. They also tend to have softer soles on their feet that are prone to injury.
Earthing is a fun and simple way to improve your health and wellness. Try it and see if it makes you feel better. I know it’s helped me and so many others and best of all, it’s free!
