If you are interested in the health benefits of matcha tea, but don’t enjoy hot drinks, why not make a smoothie? It’s an easy and delicious way to get your caffeine and energy, without drinking coffee. You’ll be surprised how easy the switch is once you experience the benefits.
Here are four different types of matcha green tea smoothie recipes to try out.
1. Matcha Berry Smoothie

This first smoothie lets you have your favorite fruit smoothie, but with the added health benefits of the matcha green tea powder. It is a berry smoothie, so go ahead and add any berries you like. It can be one type of berry, or a mixed berry like with frozen blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries. Any berries will do and mix well with the flavour of matcha.
Ingriends:
- 1 cup of frozen berries
- 1-2 tsp of matcha powder
- 2 cups of your favourite nut milk
- 1 banana
- 1 tsp chia seeds
- dash of cinnamon or honey (optional
How to make: In a blender, combine the berries with a nut milk of your choosing, matcha powder, chia seeds, and a banana. You can also season it up with some cinnamon or honey if you like. For a thicker powder, add some protein powder as well.
Blend well and enjoy!
2. Matcha Banana Green Tea Smoothie

This next smoothie is super easy to make. It is best to use a frozen banana because it gives the smoothie a nice cool consistency, without having to use a lot of ice.
Ingredients:
- 1 frozen banana
- 1-2 tsp matcha powder
- 2 cups of your favourite milk (dairy or non-dairy)
- 1 tbsp maple syrup
How to make: Add the frozen banana to the blender with your matcha powder, milk and some maple syrup to sweeten it up a bit. Blend together and enjoy! There are some stores that sell latte-grade matcha powder which is best when making a smoothie.
3. Banana Cacao Matcha Smoothie

This goes one step further by using the same ingredients as in the banana smoothie, but adding a chocolate flavor as well. It’s like a dessert, but for breakfast and because it’s healthy it’s a great way to start your day!
This doesn’t taste much like green tea, so it really is best when you want a banana chocolate smoothie but a healthier one.
Ingredients:
- 1 frozen banana
- 1-2 tsp matcha powder
- 2 cups of your favourite milk
- 1 tsp maple syrup
- 1 tsp cacao powder
- 1 tbsp chia seeds (optional)
How to make: Add the ingredients to your blender and mix well. Enjoy!
4. Matcha Smoothie Bowl

Are you a fan of smoothie bowls? If you are, why not try one with matcha green tea! Remember that smoothie bowls are thicker than regular smoothies, so you can add a protein powder and/or chia seeds to thicken it up and add nutrition.
Ingredients:
- 1 frozen banana
- 1 cup frozen berries
- 1/2 cup yogurt
- 1/2 cup spinach
- 1/2 cup almond milk
- 1 tbsp matcha powder
- Protein powder (optional)
- toppings- fresh fruits, coconut shavings and/or cacao nibs
How to make: For the bowl, add your frozen banana, frozen berries, yogurt, spinach, almond milk, and matcha to your blender. Blend. If you like it thicker add a little chia seeds or protein powder. Pour it all into a bowl and add toppings like coconut shavings, fresh fruit and cacao nibs. Enjoy!
