How To Stop Being Lazy And Unmotivated (10 Helpful Tips)

10 Tips On How To Stop Being Lazy and Unmotivated!

Are you feeling lazy and unmotivated? How do you stop? The answer (as I’m sure you’ve realized) takes more than a motivational video and an energy drink.

To get to the root of why you’re “lazy:, first, determine what laziness really is, because it could be laziness or it could be depression.

When I think of someone being lazy, I picture someone laying on the couch with a bag of potato chips.

That’s not really being lazy though.

In order to determine if you are lazy or not, you need to look at the bigger picture.

Self care is taking care of yourself.

Laziness is not!

And, more often than not, people are “lazy” or unmotivated, because they don’t have anything they’re truly passionate about.

Want to know how to stop being lazy? Read on!

What Is Self Care Vs Being Lazy?

It’s a term we hear so often these days as we millennials talk about the importance of practicing self-care. I’m sure their parents are cringing at the term and thinking it’s just an excuse to be lazy. But, is it?

Self care is:

  • Taking care of yourself
  • Eating healthy foods
  • Exercising
  • Resting
  • Saying no to things you don’t want to do
  • Educating yourself
  • Setting goals
  • Recharging
  • Taking time for hobbies, like these fun hobbies for women!

Self care is improving yourself, inside and out. It’s about being a high value woman and knowing your worth.

It can be a saying no to an invite because you don’t have time to go. Or taking a day off when you are over-worked and exhausted/sick.

But it’s not about avoiding responsibilities.

You can’t say no to everything because you don’t feel like going and you when you’re done being sick/tired you’ll have to catch up on all the dishes and laundry you let go. It’s about finding a good balance between taking care of yourself and your responsibilities.

What Is Laziness?

Us millennials are often accused of being lazy and slapping the title of self care on it!

But is taking a bubble bath instead of doing the dishes self care or laziness? Asking for a friend… I think it’s probably self care if you have two kids, a full time job and a headache. But it’s likely laziness if you don’t have a job, and are perfectly healthy.

What are the bad habits of lazy people?

Laziness is:

  • Eating chips for dinner
  • Being unproductive
  • Not setting goals
  • Staying up late to watch Netflix and then being too tired to function at work the next day
  • Procrastinating
  • Avoiding physical activities
  • Poor eating habits
  • Overspending
  • Overeating
  • Overindulging
  • Oversleeping
  • Ignoring your responsibilities
  • Ignoring your needs

I am not saying you’re lazy if you do those things.

10 Tips On How To Stop Being Lazy & Unmotivated

Everything in moderation. It all depends on your lifestyle and how often you indulge in these ‘self care’ routines.

Lazy people often feel guilty after they’ve overeaten, overslept, overspent so they call it ‘Self-care’ and say ‘I deserve it.’ But, if you’re buying $8 mochas on the regular, instead of using the home Keurig, I would feel guilty too.

Self care is about recharging your mind and body so you can be better!

If done right, self care actually helps you to be more productive, reduces stress and anxiety and makes you happier! That’s real self care.

It’s normal to have a lazy day every now and then. Even the most successful people do! So don’t feel guilty about taking a day to chill and do nothing. It’s actually good for you.

What’s bad, is ignoring your responsibilities and forming a habit of it.

The occasional lazy day isn’t an issue. But, when you’re constantly feeling lazy, you might need to take steps to change. Life is too short to waste. You’re not making the most of your time if you’re being lazy on a regular basis.

How To Stop Laziness By Identifying Why You Are Unmotivated!

Address the cause of your laziness and take control of your time with these strategies:

The First Step Is Awareness

The first step is awareness and the desire to step up and take action. Do you want to change? Of course you do, or you wouldn’t be reading this. You deserve to take care of yourself! You deserve to be healthy, happy and passionate about what matters to you.

Try using mood trackers to help identify how you feel and manage your emotions.

Maybe you’ve lost your passion somewhere along the way, and let yourself go a little. Once you start to love yourself again, you’ll want to take better care of yourself. It all starts with self love! I know it sounds cheesy and you’re probably rolling your eyes, but if you’re lazy and not taking care of YOU, how much do you really love yourself? My entire life changed once I started to prioritize ME.

Self-Love can motivate the $hit out of you! I recommend reading affirmations for self-love daily to learn to love and appreciate you!

1. Are You Lazy Or Procrastinating?

Are you lazy or just procrastinating? Are you really lazy? Maybe you’re just dreading what you need to do. The result is the same, but procrastination is often mistaken for laziness. Consider why you’re failing to take action. You might just have an issue with procrastination.

We recommend reading these signs of mental exhaustion if you’re feeling really tired and unmotivated lately.

2. Are You Motivated?

Low motivation. Motivation is hard to generate without taking action. Motivation is more of a symptom than a cause. Take action and then motivation can follow. It’s not easy to act when you simply don’t feel like doing it, but it’s an important skill to develop.

One very effective way to deal with low motivation and procrastination is to make your goals super manageable. Set SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and Timely). Write down what you need to get done and how you plan to do it. Avoid unrealistic goals and start off small. This will help you build momentum and encourages growth.

Try adding goal setting to your self care Sunday plans so you can set yourself for a successful week ahead.

3. Are You Tired?

Fatigue. Fatigue can lead to laziness. It takes a certain amount of energy to do something and maintain a positive attitude. Imagine trying to get things done after a night of only three hours of sleep. Of course, you’re going to feel lazy. Get some rest if you need it, so you can start feeling refreshed.

Fatigue, even after a full night’s rest can be a sign of anxiety or depression. Speak to a doctor if this is an issue.

4. Are You Interested?

A lack of interest. Some tasks are boring or don’t really matter to you. It’s like when your dad wanted you to clean out the garage. You probably didn’t care if the garage was clean or not as long as you could get to your bike without too much difficulty.

● Ask yourself what the benefits are to you. Maybe you do gain something by taking this action. For example, you might not like organizing your closet, but you’ll be able to pick out your outfits a lot easier and probably find some things you forgot you had!

5. Do You Expect To Fail? Or Succeed?

Hopelessness. When you expect to fail, it’s not easy to feel excited and full of motivation about doing something. Laziness is often a symptom of hopelessness – the belief that your time and effort won’t make an impact on your life.

● Prove to yourself that you can impact your life. Set a small goal and achieve it.

6. Are You Indecisive?

Indecisiveness. Some people aren’t lazy. They just can’t make up their minds so they appear unmotivated. You can’t take action if you don’t decide. Choosing something is better than choosing nothing. Pull the trigger and do the best you can. Things have a tendency to work out if you take action. And if you decide you don’t like the path you took, take another.

● Think about your values and what you want to accomplish in your life. This can make one option stand out over another. If you truly can’t decide, rolling dice is better than standing still.

8. Set Goals!

Do you lack of direction? Do you have goals? Do you feel like you have a purpose in life? A lack of direction can lead to indecisiveness and a lack of motivation. Many people aren’t sure what to do with their lives and decide that doing nothing is better than doing the wrong thing. This is faulty thinking. Any progress is better than none. The longer you wait, the harder it is to get started.

I get what you are driving at, but something to keep in mind is mental health. Is it laziness or depression? Laziness is an issue – no doubt. And any action is better than no action. Remind yourself of that every day and you’ll begin to be more motivated. Write it on your mirror ’I love myself enough to take care of myself’ positive self talk really helps! Best of luck!!
